China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) set up its Mediation Center in May 2018, to provide professional and efficient commercial mediation service for parties at home and abroad. The CIETAC Mediation Center keeps a Panel of Mediators which is renewed every four years. A mediator’s duty is to mediate the disputes between the parties impartially and independently, based on the nomination of the parties or the appointment of the CIETAC Mediation Center. The professional competence and ethic integrity of the mediators are essential for the proper handling of mediation cases and the efficient and impartial resolution of disputes.

The current term of the CIETAC listed mediators will expire on 31 May 2023. The renewal arrangements of the CIETAC Panel of Mediators are as follows:

I. Application Requirements

a. Devoted to dispute resolution, with a fair and impartial, upright and noble character;

b. Familiar with and willing to abide by the CIETAC Mediation Rules and other relevant regulations;

c. Having acquired necessary legal and professional knowledge;

d. Equipped with strong oral and written communication capabilities and certain mediation skills;

e. Engaged in the professional work, education or research in the field of law, economy and trade, etc., and familiar with relevant laws and regulations; those with expertise and specialized knowledge in the relevant industries or fields will be preferred;

f. Proficient in a foreign language and able to use it as a working language, and this requirement may be relaxed to some extent for a few well-known professionals;

g. Able to ensure sufficient time and energy for handling mediation cases;

h. No record of criminal penalties, party disciplinary or professional disciplinary sanctions;

i. Not exceeding 65 years of age in principle (by 1 June 2023).

II. Submission of Application Materials

If you meet the above requirements and desire to be a CIETAC mediator, please download and fill in the Mediator Application Form (find the link below), and send your form with its attachment to the Email: mediators@cietac.org no later than 6 May 2023.

If you have any recommendation letters or other application-related materials, please send them together with your application form.

III. Application Review and Qualification Grant

CIETAC will review all the application materials, and grant the mediator qualification to those applicants who pass the review based on its mediation development needs. CIETAC will release its new Panel of Mediators on 1 June 2023.
